The Author

Mark Flavin was born in Renton Washington, right next door to Seattle, birthplace of the jet age, the home of the Boeing Company. His varied career has spanned thirty years of aerospace engineering beginning with work on America's Supersonic Transport Program with Boeing in the early seventies. Mark spent four years in the U.S. Air Force, during the Vietnam War.

He is an avid science fiction reader, with a strong preference for real stories about real people, with hardware as an important backdrop. As an engineer enamored with technology, his literary style is richly embellished with the technical aspects of life in space. His formative years growing up during the race for space have left a deep and lasting impression. The vivid memories of NASA's Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs and the heroic nature of early space flight established a love of the cosmos, the men who bravely faced it, and the engineers who made it all happen.

Mark is also an artist, enjoying the new digital medium for artists that allow him to express his creativity. The cover and all design elements of his books are all his original artistry. He and his wife Judy enjoy the quiet rural life of Brazos Texas, where creative thought is uninhibited by the urban din. Immersed in this tranquility he is busy at work on the sequel to New Thunder.
