Anomalies – A small but important cadre of men, women, and children who are immune to the influence of the Conduit. As such they are the enemies of the Federal State, and a challenge to the omnipotent authority claimed by the Maxors's. When captured by the Federal they usually disappeared without a trace. The accepted belief was that they were used in grotesque experiments by the governments to try to understand and alter their immunity.

Anomalies gravitated to occupations on the fringes of civilization, usually ending up as a lone deep space trader far away from the local transceiver of the Conduit, only approaching the Seven Worlds as need arises. They are ordinary looking people, indistinguishable from the masses. It is significant that all Magi are anomalies. The linkage has never been proven, but the speculation is that anomalies are descendants of the Magi.
