Alpha

Alpha – Originally known as Alpha World. The first habitable planet discovered by Earth explorers during the First Wave. Settled by colonists from the Realm Corporation, it was a perfect world in every detail. The sterile oceans were invested with a rich variety of species brought by the Star Charger in the first months after she arrived. Once a dozen or so bays and inlets began to slowly become populated with fish, plankton and marine plants the scientists and engineers turned their attention on terafroming the land. The seas were free of salt, unlike the oceans of Earth. This had all been carefully considered by the bio-engineers who had bread species to exist in an extreme variety of dissolved minerals and salts.

The atmosphere of Alpha World was much richer in oxygen that Earth so adjustments were made in the type of aerobic organisms that were released. All carefully planned, meticulously engineered, flawlessly executed by the best minds in business and science. After all this was the starter world, the verdant seed in a vast black ocean of vacuum. The whole process took decades, but by the end of the first century human colonies existed on both major continents, initially built from the mass of a ship over four kilometers long by paid worker settlers, efficiently producing, designing, planning a world that would be the jump point for the Third Wave.

Just at the point where the investors were expecting the first returns from this rich alien world the Great Darkness struck without warning on one sleepy summer afternoon back on the north hemisphere of old Earth. It would forever change humans. Contact with the home world was lost, and Alpha slowly evolved into a culture and society separate from but based on the codified corporate principals of old Earth – growth, expansion and most of all profit without conscience.

In the succeeding centuries and millennia the fortunes of Alpha and her elite populace waned in a succession of disputes with the Seconds – Second Wavers, as they were known. These settlers were a new class of people chosen by rival corporations for their aggressive survivalist tendencies and seeded on other worlds. What was unknown to even the Seconds was that one lone individual, the Dark Enemy, who had joined their ranks was the agent for the enslavement of all mankind. This innocuous person was the author of the Great Darkness, and who once among their ranks would forever alter the course of humanity.

Alpha now has the dubious honor of being the "Holy World", home of the Prime Maxor, spiritual leader of Federal Space.
